Elon’s Coffer to Participate in “Athletes in Action” International Tour

XENIA, Ohio – Elon University women’s basketball freshman Sam Coffer will participate in the 2012 Athletes in Action Women’s International Basketball tour this summer, traveling to Brazil from June 8-23.

“I am so excited for this opportunity. I don’t know when I’ll have the chance to do something like this again in my life, but I’m definitely up for the challenge and I am excited to be along for the ride,” Coffer said. “The opportunity to play with so many great players from the WNBA and from outstanding college teams is very exciting and I am looking forward to the start of training camp and the trip to Brazil.”

Coffer and her teammates will practice together in Arizona for five days in June before making the trek to Brazil. The team consists for 12 players from several Division I college programs like Baylor and Notre Dame, as well as professional players from the WNBA and leagues overseas.

The team will play against several professional teams in Brazil, along with conducting clinics and bible study with youth players.

A native of Greensboro, Coffer was named to the Southern Conference’s all-freshman squad this past season after making 26 starts as a rookie. Coffer averaged 6.0 points and 4.7 rebounds per game for the Phoenix during the 2011-12 season and was fourth on the team with 21 makes from beyond the arc.

Now in its 45th year, Athletes in Action continues to journey throughout the world for the purpose of sharing the hope of Jesus Christ through the platform that basketball provides.
