Jason Allen from Page High School is the USPTA Southern Region Coach of the Year

Congrats are in order for Coach Jason Allen(Page HS), who has just been named the USPTA Southern Region High School Tennis Coach of the Year……

Good job Coach Allen and more details are forthcoming…..USPTA is the United States Professional Tennis Association……Pretty much like the old USTA, one would think and I think we will look deeper into this…Great piece of sports news….From what we were reading the USPTA has been around since 1927 and that is longer than Allen Morris, one of the long-time tennis stars from our area and he may have moved on by now, as did Jane Preyer and many of our other local tennis historians……

A little geographical bonus from the News and Record:(www.news-record.com)
The Southern region for the USPTA is composed of 10 states, including Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee and Texas. Allen will receive the award during the USPTA Southern Convention on May 19 in Suwannee, Ga.

Didn’t former Page standout and current men’s tennis star John Isner attend the University of Georgia???

from Page AD and CAA Rusty Lee:
Page High School’s women’s and men’s Tennis Coach Jason Allen has been named the
2011 U.S. Professional Tennis Association Southern High School Coach of the Year.
Congratulations Coach Allen!!

  1. Yes, Isner played at UGA.

Jason Allen played college tennis at Gardner Webb, for coach Andy Smith, who himself played at UNCG back in the day and is currently a teaching pro at the Olde Forest Raquet Club in Elon.

  2. Is coach Allen any kin to Allen Morris, formeer UNC player and member of the NC HOF and the USTA HOF?

  3. No, sorry, think you guys are 0 of 2. Jason is from Palatka, FL, and pretty sure not related to Allen. And no, Andy, Andy Smith is no relation to Stan Smith, nor Davey Boy, in case you were wondering that, too.

  4. Does anyond remember the young tennis phenom Juan Farrow from back in the day….He was in our area and got started in Burlington back in the mid-to-late 70’s and then moved on to Tennessee and may have attended McCallie Academy there….

Juan Farrow, now there is a tennis name from the past…..And there were guys like John Sadri, Bill Stephanz, Carlton Harris, Suzie Black and many more that came through here and around our state…..
