Tendler Announces the Addition of Rafetto to 2012 Elon Volleyball Class

ELON, N.C. – Elon head volleyball coach Mary Tendler has announced the addition of Chelsea Rafetto (Unionville, Pa./Unionville) to the 2012 incoming class. Rafetto, a 5-9 setter, will join the team, along the three other signees, when pre-season practice begins in August.

“We welcome Chelsea and her family to Elon University and our volleyball program,” said Tendler. “I am excited that she has chose to become a Phoenix. Chelsea’s work ethic, energy and passion for the game are very evident when you watch her play. As a setter, she makes the players around her look better and she finds ways to win.”

A four-year varsity starter at Unionville High School, Rafetto was the only player in school history to record over 100 kills, digs and assists during her sophomore, junior and senior seasons. Rafetto was named to first-team all-state and all-area both her junior and senior year, while earning second-team all-state honors as a sophomore. Selected as team captain her sophomore and senior years and the team MVP as a senior, Rafetto broke the program’s all-time assist record and season assist record. She helped Unionville finish in the top 8 in the state tournament during her freshman and junior seasons.

A member of Synergy Volleyball Club, Rafetto helped her club team to five appearances at nationals, tying for fifth in 2008 and 2009. She was also selected to the High Performance team at age 14.

Rafetto plans on studying elementary education when she arrives at Elon. She is the daughter of Ray and Michele Rafetto.
