College Men’s Golf Results – Guilford 11th After 1st Day of Marine Federal Credit Union Intercollegiate

CAMP LEJEUNE, N.C. – Ben Nihart carded a seven-under-par 63 to help Greensboro College to a share of the first-round lead Friday at the 41st annual Marine Federal Credit Union Camp Lejeune Intercollegiate Golf Tournament.

The Pride and fellow first-round leader Webber International University both shot 270 on the par-70, 6,120-yard Scarlet Course at the Paradise Point Golf Club. Guilford College was also among the 16 teams on the Scarlet Course Friday and shot 285, good enough for 11th place.

The remaining 16 teams in the 32-unit field played the par-72, 7,040-yard Gold Course Friday and saw Oglethorpe University post the day’s low score (289). St. Thomas College’s Omar Tejeira carded an eight-under 64 to pace the Gold Course individuals.

The teams will switch courses for Saturday’s second round and the low-16 team scores advance to Sunday’s championship round on the Gold Course. The remaining schools will play a consolation round on the Scarlet Course.

Guilford had three students shoot one-over 71 Friday: junior Noah Ratner, senior Dusty Roberts (Reidsville, N.C./Rockingham County) and freshman Mitch Robinette (Charlotte, N.C./Grace Academy). Junior J.T. Thomas (Raleigh, N.C./Broughton) had a 72, one shot better than freshman teammate Drew Thompson.

Coach Corey Maggard’s team, ranked first in the current Golf World/Nike Golf Division III Coaches’ Poll and Golfstat.com Division III Relative Rankings, tees off Saturday (3/31) at 8:50 a.m. on the Gold Course.
