Randolph Softball Too Much For Sweet Briar in Doubleheader Sweep

SWEET BRIAR, VA – The Randolph College softball team had little trouble Thursday afternoon in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) doubleheader with Sweet Briar College, sweeping the Vixens with scores of 12-0 and 19-0.

In the first contest, Randolph (14-7/3-1 ODAC) scored six runs in the top of the first, with the big blow coming from first-year Jess Sanabria (Burgaw, NC/Pender), who connected on a two-run homer. The shot was her second of the season. The WildCats added three more in the second and two in the third to lead by 11.

That was plenty for the pitching staff of Randolph, which allowed only one hit on the contest. Sanabria started and went two scoreless, before handing the ball to Logan Carter (Richmond, VA/Midlothian) who pitched three perfect innings of relief to get the win.

Junior Ashley Gardner (Ashburn, VA/Stone Bridge) was three-for-three with three RBI and four runs in game one, while Sanabria also had two hits and two runs scored. In the nightcap, Randolph scored four runs in the first two frames before putting up an 11 spot in the third to put the game away.

Gardner had another monster game in the night affair, going three-for-four with three RBI and four more runs scored. Lauren Stevenson (Virginia Beach, VA/Tallwood) had two hits and two runs, while Sanabria was a perfect three-for-three with three RBI. First-year Patti Vinson (Williamsburg, VA/Lafayette) added a two-for-three day, driving in three.

The WildCats will look to continue their three-game winning streak in conference on Saturday with a huge ODAC doubleheader at No. 24 Bridgewater College starting at 2 p.m.
