College Men’s Golf Results – Guilford Wraps Up Day Two at Marine Federal Credit Union Intercollegiate

CAMP LEJEUNE, N.C. – Methodist University shot five-under-par 283 Saturday and holds a two-stroke lead over Oglethorpe University through 36 holes of the 41st annual Marine Federal Credit Union Camp Lejeune Intercollegiate Men’s Golf Tournament.

Guilford College sits 22nd among 32 teams and did not qualify for Sunday’s tournament championship round.

Methodist played the par-72, 7,040-yard Gold Course at the Paradise Point Golf Club and shot seven strokes lower than the other 15 teams on the links. The Monarchs have a 36-hole total of 554, two strokes ahead of Oglethorpe (556) and seven shots in front of Shorter University (295-266-561) and the University of South Carolina at Beaufort (271-290-561). Oglethorpe, which had the low Gold Course score (289) Friday, played the par-70, 6,120-yard Scarlet Course Saturday and shot 267.

St. Thomas College’s Omar Tejeira carded a three-under 67 on the Scarlet Course Saturday . He leads the individual field with an 11-under 131 after 36 holes.

The low-16 team scores qualified for Sunday’s championship round on the Gold Course. The remaining schools, including Guilford, will play a consolation round on the Scarlet Course.

Guilford shot 302 on the Gold Course Saturday. Senior Dusty Roberts (Reidsville, N.C./Rockingham County) had Guilford’s low score (74) and has a 145 total through two rounds. Noah Ratner and Drew Thompson both shot 75 Saturday and junior J.T. Thomas (Raleigh, N.C./Broughton) scored with a 78. Mitch Robinette (Charlotte, N.C./Grace Academy) shot 80 for a two-day 151.

Coach Corey Maggard’s team, ranked first in the current Golf World/Nike Golf Division III Coaches’ Poll and Golfstat.com Division III Relative Rankings, wraps up play Sunday (4/1) on the Scarlet Course.
