College Men’s Track and Field Results – Guilford’s Smith Takes Third in 100 and 200 at Raleigh Relays

RALEIGH, N.C. – Sophomore Johnathan Smith (Conyers, Ga./Salem) concluded Guilford College’s competition at the Raleigh Relays Saturday with a pair of third-place finishes in the 100- and 200-meter dash.

After qualifying with Friday’s fifth-fastest time, Smith ran Saturday’s 100 final in 10.69 seconds. He narrowly missed his second straight 100 victory as Reggie Reese (10.66) and George Mason University’s Rachaun Ruffin (10.67) crossed the line just ahead of Smith. The Quakers’ three-time All-American had the top NCAA Division III time in the race.

Smith placed third in the 200 behind a pair from Norfolk State University. The Spartans’ Marquis Holston hit the tape in 20.97 seconds, followed by teammate James Taylor (21.18). Smith crossed the line in 21.32 seconds, again the top Division III time in the race.

Interim coach Danny Cash’s Quakers, ranked 23rd in the current U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Division III Rankings, compete April 6-7 at the Duke University Invitational.
