Three HPU Women’s Basketball Players Named to NCCSIA All-State teams

HIGH POINT, N.C. – Three members of the High Point University women’s basketball team were named to the University Division All-State team by the North Carolina Collegiate Sports Information Association (NCCSIA) on Monday. Senior Shamia Brown and sophomore Cheyenne Parker were each named to the first team while junior Erin Reynolds was named to the second team.

The three players named to the All-State squads and the two players represented on the first team are both program highs for HPU. It is only the second time ever that three players from one team have been recognized by the NCCSIA. The only other occurrence came in 2006 when three players from Davidson College were all named to the second team.

Brown was named first-team All-Big South after averaging a team-high 16.2 points per game while also grabbing 6.8 rebounds and 2.2 steals per game. She set HPU Div. I single-season records for total points (534), points per game, field goals made and free throws made. Brown scored in double figures in 27 games and over 20 points in 10 games, including 29 against NC State in the WNIT. The senior forward finishes her HPU career as the program’s Div. I career leader in both scoring and rebounding.

Parker was named the Big South Defensive Player of the Year and a second-team All-Big South member in 2011-12. The sophomore center set new Big South single-season records in both rebounds, with 403, and blocked shots, with 121. Parker finished fourth in the nation in rebounding and fifth in the nation in blocked shots per game. Her 19 double-doubles led the Big South and put her in the top-10 nationally this past season. Parker set HPU Div. I single-season records in total rebounds, rebounds per game and blocks. Parker finished third on HPU in scoring with 13.0 points per game and was one of two players in the Big South to average a double-double on the season. Parker is one of just nine players in Division I basketball to record a triple-double this season with 13 points, 22 rebounds and 10 blocks at Winthrop on Jan. 28.

Reynolds joined Parker as a second-team All-Big South honoree after finishing the season second on the team in scoring with 15.9 points per game. The junior led the team in both assists (4.3 apg) and steals (2.7 spg), finishing in the top three in the Big South in both categories. Reynolds set a new HPU Div. I record with 11 20-point games including five-straight to end the season. Against Pittsburgh on Dec. 2, Reynolds tied the HPU Div. I single-game scoring record with 36 points, the most scored by a Big South player on the season. Reynolds was named to the Big South All-Tournament team after finishing as its leading scorer with 24.3 points per game.

Nominees were submitted by North Carolina sports information professionals and voted on by the NCCSIA members.
