Elon’s Salek Chosen as SoCon Track Athlete of the Month

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Southern Conference announced its March athletes of the month today, April 3, and Elon track and field’s Amy Salek was named the SoCon Women’s Outdoor Track Athlete of the Month. The athletes are nominated by each member institution and selected by the conference office.

Salek claimed two titles for the Phoenix at the Coastal Carolina Invitational to open the outdoor season on March 9 -10. She ran the anchor leg of the 4×400-meter relay to win the race for the maroon and gold with a time of 3:50.49. The senior also won the 400-meter dash by clocking a time of 55.71.

The Wyckoff, N.J., native finished fourth last week in the 400m at the Raleigh Relays with a time of 54.70, which ranks second in the conference. To close out the month, Salek was a member of both the 4×100-meter and 4×200-meter relay teams that set Elon school records at the Raleigh Relays on Saturday.

Salek was honored as the SoCon Outdoor Track Athlete and the SoCon Student-Athlete of the Week on March 14.

The Elon track and field team will compete in both the Duke Invitational and the Liberty Collegiate Invitational on Friday, April 6 – Saturday, April 7.
