The Pride tennis teams picked up wins over Shenandoah on Saturday, with the men winning 9-0 and the women holding on for a 5-4 win. The Greensboro men are now 4-9 overall and 2-4 in the USA South after winning their second straight. The women, meanwhile, have won two in a row and three of their past four to improve to 5-9 overall and 4-4 in the conference.
The men set the tone for the match in doubles play with three wins. Matthew Miller and Kevin Koval teamed up at number one to defeat Vladimir Daskalov and Dustan DeMello 8-6. The number two squad of Crosby Simms and Nicholas Gillespie beat Jakob Curtis and Matt Smith 8-2, while Matthew Troy and Jonathan Deming knocked off Myles Hairston and Anthony Horkan at three, 8-4.
The momentum continued into singles competition as The Pride took all six matches to complete the sweep. Miller beat DeMello at one (6-3, 6-4), Koval outlasted Daskalav at two (7-6 (9-7), 6-0), Simms breezed by Horkan at three (6-0, 6-1), Matthew Moscatello handled Smith at four (6-0, 6-1), Troy defeated Curtis at five (6-2, 6-3), and Gillespie blanked Hairston at six (6-0, 6-0).
The Greensboro women also rolled to a 3-0 lead following doubles action. Meredith Kelly and Kristen Smith beat Carla Wong and Shannon Allin, 8-6, at one; Brittany Cates and Danielle Simpson picked up an 8-6 win over Kayla Green and Ilana Rozin at two; and Hillary Cook and Lauren Fisher finished the sweep by beating Kelsey Brewster and Rachel Gross at three, 8-6.
The Pride were forced to hold on in singles play, with Cook holding on for a big 6-0, 7-6 (3) win over Brewster at number five and Fisher blowing by Rozin, 6-2, 6-2, at six.
The Greensboro men will finish out their regular season on April 11 at Randolph, while the women complete their season on April 7 at Peace.
