Second Half Troubles Doom Randolph Women’s Lacrosse in 15-6 Loss to Ferrum

LYNCHBURG, VA – The Randolph College women’s lacrosse team led through most of the first half and took only one-goal deficit into halftime but was outscored 10-2 in the second period in falling to Ferrum College 15-6 Friday afternoon in the final home contest of the season in WildCat Stadium.

The WildCats (3-8) scored three of the first four goals of the game, as Nushaa Kaz (Raleigh, NC/Ravenscroft) darted through the defense just 31 seconds in to give Randolph a 1-0 lead. Brooke Hewartson tied the game at one, but goals from Danielle Haney (Norwood, PA/Interboro) and Ashley Edwards (Sumerduck, VA/Liberty-Bealeton) pushed Randolph ahead by two after 11:24.

After Ferrum (11-5) pulled to within one at 3-2, Kaz notched her second of the game to push the WildCat lead back to two. Unfortunately for Randolph, Ferrum ended the half on a three-goal streak, capped by a Sydney Hewartson goal with three seconds left in the half to put FC up 5-4 at the half.

The Panthers netted the first two goals out of the break, but Haney answered again to pull Randolph back to within two at 7-5. The games next six goals would go the way of Ferrum, as the Panthers pulled away for the non-conference victory.
