College Women’s Lacrosse Final – Guilford 15, Lynchburg 10

LYNCHBURG, Va. – Summer Frazier scored five goals in Guilford College’s 15-10 lacrosse win at Lynchburg College Saturday, the Quakers’ first over the Hornets since 2008.

Guilford’s E’leyna Garcia opened the scoring with two of her three goals, which helped the visitors jump out to an early 6-1 lead. Frazier tallied three times in the opening half as the Quakers (8-4, 5-1 ODAC) held a 9-3 edge at halftime.

Lynchburg’s Lesley Buckingham, who also scored five goals, netted two tallies early in the second half and Carley Dobson scored 9:04 into the period to bring the Hornets (7-5, 4-1 ODAC) to within 10-6. The teams traded goals the rest of the way and Lynchburg never drew closer than four.

Lily Colley scored three goals and an assist for Guilford. Kathryn Carella added two goals and an assist, plus three ground balls. Eleanora Keene scored once, had a game-high six draw controls and forced four turnovers. Liza Mettler was solid in goal with 10 saves, four on free-position shots, and five ground balls.

Bri Slate contributed four points on two goals and two assists for Lynchburg. Christina Tran made eight saves in goal before giving way to Haley Bossert with 10:44 left in the game. The Hornets converted just two-of-10 free-position opportunities.

The Quakers visit Randolph-Macon next Saturday (4/14) for a 4:00 p.m. ODAC contest.
