GC Women’s Tennis Beats Peace for Third Straight Win

The Greensboro College women’s tennis team knocked off Peace on Saturday, 7-2, for its third straight win and fourth in its past five matches. The Pride again took control from the start, winning all three doubles matches before putting it away in singles competition.

In doubles play, Meredith Kelly and Kristen Smith were victorious over Zoe Littmann and Kristen Edwards at number one (8-1); Brittany Cates and Danielle Simpson knocked off Abi Nails and Elledeia Ijames at two (8-3); and Hillary Cook and Lauren Fisher beat Hannelor Manchester and Virginia Taylor at three (8-1).

Singles victories were earned by Kelly over Littmann at one (6-1, 6-1); Simpson over Ijames at two (6-2, 7-6 (4)); Cook over Manchester at five (6-3, 6-2) and Fisher over Elizabeth Wurtzel at six (6-0, 6-2).

The win improves Greensboro to 6-9 overall and 5-4 in the USA South. The Pride will now turn their attention to the conference tournament, scheduled to begin on Friday at Burlington, NC.
