GRAHAM — Southeast Guilford won the Graham Boosters Easter Tournament for the third straight year Saturday night, giving Western Alamance a taste of its own medicine in a 15-4 victory in five innings.

After exploding for a combined 31 runs in its two previous games, the Warriors (8-6) looked primed to put up another large score after Daniel Kennedy hit a three-run home run in the first inning. It was Kennedy’s third homer of the tournament, and eighth of the season.

Southeast Guilford not only had to overcome a 3-0 deficit but also two momentum-shifting calls in the first inning.

Southeast Guilford coach Dave Beasley said he couldn’t take credit for the way his team rallied.

“Justin Reece, before I could even get to them, said we were going to approach this like a playoff game,” Beasley said. “He said, ‘Guys, in a playoff game we might get down three runs early. We have to learn to fight back.’ He gave them the exact talk they needed.”

Dallas Newton was 4-for-4 Saturday with a RBI and was named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player. Cody Ezzell went 1-for-3 but finished the tournament 9-for-11.

WESTERN GUILFORD 6, GRAHAM 5: In the third-place game, a seventh inning rally fell short for the Red Devils (8-7). Graham, playing as the home team, scored two runs in the last inning before Nino Marrero shut the door on the Red Devils.
