Randolph College To Offer Men’s and Women’s Indoor and Outdoor Track in 2013-14

LYNCHBURG, VA – Randolph College announced Tuesday, April 10 that it will add women’s and men’s track and field teams. These teams will begin competing in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) in 2013-14 during both the indoor and outdoor seasons.

A new coach will be hired and begin recruiting for the new track and field team this summer. This coach will head six teams: women’s cross country, women’s indoor track and field, women’s outdoor track and field, men’s cross country, men’s indoor track and field, and men’s outdoor track and field.

Randolph currently offers growing women’s and men’s cross country teams and a student-organized club track and field team that began this spring and quickly drew 20 members. The club team will continue to practice and compete as a club next year.

Randolph College’s WildCat Stadium already features an outstanding track facility, and the College has the space to develop the venues necessary for throwing events. With the increases, the Randolph full complement of sports will grow from the current 13 sports to 17.

“We have seen a growing interest in the sport of track and field from both our current women and men and from prospective students who are considering attending Randolph,” said Tina Hill, director of athletics. “This is a great opportunity to broaden the intercollegiate opportunities we offer to students, and it is exciting to give them yet another way to develop their passion and discover their potential.”
