Two Records Fall for Elon Track and Field at UNC

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – In the Elon track and field team’s final tune up before the outdoor conference championships, the team turned in several great performances, including two school records, at the Kent Taylor – Joe Hilton UNC Invitational today, April 14.

The 4×100-meter relay team, made up of Bria Bell, Dana Cataldo, Veronica Luedke and Amy Salek, set a new Elon record with a time of 46.55 for second place.

Bell took sixth in the 200-meter dash while setting a school record with a time of 24.60, breaking her previous record by seven one-hundredths of a second (24.67). Cataldo posted a 25.51 in the event for 10th.

In the 100-meter dash, Cataldo claimed sixth with a 12.44 and Cara Hughes finished 17th with a 13.53. Salek clocked a time of 55.46 in the 400-meter dash for third, while Luedke took second in the 400-meter hurdles with a 1:03.02

Louise Prevoteau took eighth in the long jump with a leap of 18’5”, while Janelle McNeil claimed seventh in the triple jump with a jump of 36’1.25”. Jordan Lee cleared a height of 5’3” in the high jump for sixth.

In the javelin, Suzanne Martin finished after a throw of 126’6” and Lee took seventh with her heave of 101’. Claire Smith came in eighth in the pole vault after reaching a height of 10’9”.

Charlise Morgan finished fourth in the shot put after a toss of 44’6.75”, while Jennifer Jarvis took seventh with a throw of 36’1.25”. In the hammer throw, Alyssa Girvin threw for a distance of 139’6” and Morgan hit a mark of 137’9” for fifth and sixth, respectively. Girvin claimed ninth (114’8”) in the discus followed by Jarvis in 11th (104’8”).

The Phoenix will look to better last year’s program-best finish of third at the SoCon Outdoor Track and Field Championships on Saturday, April 21 – Sunday, April 22, in Cullowhee, N.C.
