College Men’s Lacrosse Final – #3 Lynchburg 18, Guilford 4

LYNCHBURG, Va. – Dylan Hoff scored three goals and three assists in Lynchburg College’s 18-4 men’s lacrosse win over Guilford College Saturday night.
The Hornets (14-1, 6-0 ODAC) are ranked third in this week’s United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association NCAA Division III Coaches’ Poll.

Lynchburg’s Max Voumard also scored three times, twice in the first quarter, which helped the hosts to a 3-1 edge after 15 minutes. Hoff had two goals and two assists in the decisive second quarter, which saw Lynchburg open a 12-2 halftime lead.

“They are a legitimate number-three (team) in the country,” said Guilford head coach Tom Carmean. “Thomas Deane played really well, and so did a lot of the younger defensemen, who got some good experience against what is probably the best attack in the country.”

Deane, the Quakers’ freshman goalie, made a career-high 15 saves in a little over three quarters of work. Senior Chris Sisk, one of four goal scorers for Guilford, tallied 6:25 into the first quarter to draw Guilford to within, 2-1.

Carmean said he was pleased how his team competed, especially early in the game.

“We want to take away a positive experience,” Carmean said. “Playing against that level of team and sticking around in the early part of the game was a part of it.”

The Quakers (6-8, 1-5 ODAC) close the regular season next Saturday (4/21) at Roanoke College.
