Elon’s Johnston, Jansaker and Lazarova Earn All-SoCon Honors

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Three Elon University women’s tennis players were honored today by the Southern Conference, as Jordan Johnston, Frida Jansaker and Barbora Lazarova earned all-conference accolades by the league’s head coaches.

Johnston was a first-team honoree in singles, while she and Jansaker were honored as first-team doubles selections. Jansaker was also named to the all-conference second team. Lazarova was one of six student-athletes to be named to the SoCon All-Freshman squad.

Johnston, who was named conference player of the week on March 13, finished the regular season with a 13-7 record. Johnston’s .650 winning percentage at number one singles ranks fourth in the SoCon. Along with Jansaker, Johnston went 19-2 at number one doubles. The duo earned a national ranking of 43 earlier in the season, the first ever national ranking for the Elon women’s tennis program.

Jansaker was nearly just impressive in singles play during the regular season, as the sophomore currently sits at 16-4 on the year after closing the regular-season on a five-match winning streak. Jansaker’s 16 victories rank first on the team and third in the league.

Lazarova has put together an impressive freshman campaign for the Phoenix. The rookie has captured 11 wins so far this season and is 7-3 on the year at number two singles. In doubles action, she has posted a combined six wins on the year, including four against league competition.

The seventh-seeded Phoenix opens the 2012 SoCon Women’s Tennis Championship on Thursday, April 19, against tenth-seeded Wofford at 11:30 a.m.
