GREENSBORO, N.C. – Guilford College head football coach Chris Rusiewicz announced the intention of six more incoming students to play football for the Quakers Thursday. The students have made their deposits to the college and will enroll for classes beginning in August. They raised Rusiewicz’s second recruiting class at Guilford to 36.
T.J. Frost (Goldsboro, N.C.) lettered at Rosewood High School under coach Robert Britt. The 6-1, 225-pound linebacker earned honorable mention All-Carolina 1A Conference recognition and captained the team as a senior. He also competed with the basketball, track and shooting teams.
Marcus Hicks (Elm City, N.C.) lettered three years at Southern Nash High School under coach Brian Foster. The 6-1, 205-pound defensive end made 10 sacks as a senior to earn All-Area recognition from the Wilson Daily Times and Rocky Mount Telegram. Hicks also garnered Third Team All-North Carolina Basketball Coaches Association District 3 and All-Big East Conference basketball honors. He competes in track and field and was 2011 all-state honoree as a member of Southern Nash’s third-place 4×400 relay team. Hicks holds the school record with a 39.5-inch vertical jump and is a member of his school’s honor roll, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and DECA.
Dylan Jackson (Glen Allen, Va.) was a three-year letter winner for coach Patrick Kane at Hermitage High School. He was a Second Team All-Colonial District selection and helped his team to consecutive state Central Region titles. As a junior, his team placed second in the Virginia Division 6 AAA final. Jackson was a member of the school’s honor roll.
Jovontae Lawson (Fayetteville, N.C.) lettered two years under coach Bryan Till at Cape Fear High School. The 6-0, 190-pound wide receiver/defensive back was an honorable mention All-Mid-South Conference pick and served as a team captain. He also lettered with the wrestling and track teams. Lawson was a member of the school’s Honor Roll and Fellowship of Christian Athletes.
Spiers Middlebrooks (Midlothian, Va.) played for coach Kevin Thomas at Midlothian High School. The 6-0, 180-pound defensive back/receiver also returned kicks for the Trojans.
Jake Passmore (Franklinville, N.C.) lettered four years at Providence Grove High School under coach Corey Phillips ‘00. The 6-2, 220-pound defensive lineman earned All-Mid-State 2A Conference and All-Randolph County recognition. Passmore was named the team’s Most Valuable Defensive Player as a senior. He is a member of the school’s A-B Honor Roll.
The Quakers open the 2012 season Sept. 1 against cross-town rival Greensboro College.
