College Men’s Track and Field News – Guilford Takes 6th at ODAC Championships

LYNCHBURG, Va. – Guilford College’s men’s track and field team placed sixth among eight teams at the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Championships Saturday. Meet host Lynchburg College captured the championship with 216 points, nearly doubling the total of second-place Bridgewater College (122). The Quakers and Virginia Wesleyan College shared sixth place with 39 points apiece.

Guilford sophomore Dylan Skinner (Hillsborough, N.C./Orange) defended his 2011 ODAC championship in the 800-meter race with a school-record time of 1:53.78. His effort lowered the previous mark (1:54.02), which he set at last year’s league championships. Skinner also anchored Guilford’s 4×400 relay team, which placed sixth in 3:34.14, the sixth-fastest time in school history.

Classmate Chad Norton finished third in the 5,000 in 15:17.21 and David Cason (Clemmons, N.C./West Forsyth) added a fourth-place finish in the 1,500 to the 3,000 steeplechase title he won yesterday. Cason ran a personal-best 4:30.59, the fifth-fastest time in school history. Junior Josh Farrar (Greensboro, N.C./Northwest Guilford) scored a fifth-place finish in the 400 in 51.13 seconds, which stands seventh in school history.

Guilford sophomore Johnathan Smith, who ran the fastest 100 qualifying time and fourth-best 200 qualifying time in Friday’s preliminaries, did not compete Saturday due to injury. He has the fastest 100 and 200 times in NCAA Division III this season.

Interim coach Danny Cash’s team is slated to send participants to the Penn Relays April 26-27.
