Elon Softball Falls to Western Carolina in Series Finale

CULLOWHEE, N.C. – The Elon softball team was not able to keep Western Carolina from claiming the series sweep today, April 22, at the Catamount Softball Complex. The Catamounts (19-29, 6-7) took the win over the Phoenix (20-17, 8-10) by a final score of 10-3.

Jordan Garrett (8-15) claimed the win for WCU after pitching five innings and allowing one run off four hits. The loss went to Erin O’Shea (13-9) who went 2.2 innings and gave up four earned runs off three hits.

E. O’Shea went 2-for 2 at the plate for the Phoenix scoring one run and one RBI. Camille Hill tallied one hit in the game for two RBI.

Western got on the board first with a two-run home run to left field by Kelly Braman to take a 2-0 lead after one inning.

Elon responded in the top of the second with two runs to tie the game. E. O’Shea doubled to right center to start the inning and moved to third on a two-out single to right by Danielle Lafferty. A triple to left by Hill scored both E. O’Shea and Lafferty to even the score at two-all.

In the top of third, the Catamounts replaced starting pitcher Katie King in the circle with Garrett before the Phoenix scored another run to take a 3-2 lead. Tomeka Watson scored the run off a single to right field by E. O’Shea.

After WCU scored three runs in the bottom of the third to go ahead by two runs, 5-3, Elon made a pitching change, bringing in Caitlin O’Shea for E. O’Shea.

The Catamounts continued with its offensive power scoring in each remaining inning for the 10-3 final victory.

Elon will play a non-conference doubleheader at Longwood on Wednesday, April 25, at 4 p.m. before a SoCon series at Georgia Southern on Saturday, April 28 – Sunday, April 29.
