College Softball Finals – Lynchburg 8-4, Guilford 0-1 (5 inn. Game 1)

LYNCHBURG, Va. – Guilford College dropped an Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) doubleheader at Lynchburg College Wednesday. The Hornets (21-17, 12-6 ODAC) won the opener, 8-0 in five innings, and game two, 4-1.

Meagan Fredenberg and Skylar Seals homered and Hope Johnson and Amber Ingram combined on a one-hitter in game one. Lynchburg scored five unearned runs in the third inning, three off the bat of Fredenberg’s fourth homer of the season. Seals hit her third homer of the year in the bottom of the fifth, a two-run shot that opened a 7-0 Lynchburg lead. Taylor Walker (2-3, 2 RBI) added a two-out, RBI single later in the inning that ended the game.

Ingram (3-5) earned the win in game two by throwing six shutout innings. Her RBI single in the fifth broke a scoreless tie and Jessi Hall’s three-run triple in the sixth inning opened a 4-0 Hornets’ edge. Guilford plated an unearned run in the top of the seventh on Alex Todd’s (Kernersville, N.C./East Forsyth) bases-loaded groundout.

Ingram led Lynchburg with two hits. Cynthia Hayes (Seagrove, N.C./Southwestern Randolph) and Sloane King (Asheboro, N.C./Southwestern Guilford) both had two hits for Guilford, which ends its season with a 17-23 record (4-14 ODAC).
