(GREENSBORO, N.C.) — The Pride Athletic Department held its annual Jim Locke Golf Tournament, sponsored by ABC 45, on Thursday at Starmount Forest Country Club. In total, 28 foursomes and 112 golfers hit the course for a fun filled day.
The festivities kicked off at noon with lunch from Chick-Fil-A. The Captain’s Choice Scramble began at 1 p.m. followed by a special dinner sponsored by the Greensboro Sports Commission. In addition to dinner, donated prizes were auctioned and raffled away to participants.
Posting the low round of the day was The Mattress Firm team of Chris Cositore, Matt Leach, Hunter Murphy and Dave Woodson. Placing second was the foursome of Byron McDonald, Shane Kelly, Kirk Mitchell and Sterling Mitchell. Rounding out the top three was Steve Johnson, Rich Vellucci, Brian Shreve and Frank Hill.
Individual golfers also had the opportunity to win prizes on the golf course, with a long drive, closest-to-the-pin and hole-in-one challenge. Chris Cositore earned top honors in the long drive challenge while Mark Carroll placed his shot closest to the pin.
“The tournament went really well,” said Greensboro College Athletics Director Dan Cetrone. “It was a great day, the course was beautiful and we had an awesome group playing. We are excited to be back at Starmount Forest again for the next two years.”
Overall, the tournament raised around $6,000 for the Athletics Department.
