‘Between the Lines’ with High School Baseball for tonight as the playoffs get started

Tonight Round One of the NCHSAA Playoffs and it is win or go home, unless you are already at home…..

Northwest Guilford(14-11) at Southern Alamance(21-6) 7pm…..Keaton Haack, Adam Swim, Jason Bellenkes, Jesse Juday, Grayson Evans, Colson Everett, Victor Dilla, Matt Bond, Stephen Hemrick and who have we left out??? Sorry and somebody fill in those other key names if you can get to them before I get over to MaxPreps….Southern Alamance has Tommy Marshall(outstanding hitter with power and all the components), Cody Moize(clutch hitter), Jacob Wolfe(very solid late-season pitcher), Eddie Sappelt(game-player), A.J. Edwards(another steady/solid pitcher), Chandler Addertion, Chase Massey, Morgan Keene, Austin Drake and many more and with SA coming in with that (21-6) record and having won about 10 or so in a-row, the Patriots will be the favored team, but we all remember what NWG did last year when they went down to Providence and pulled off the upset right????? This could be deja vu all over again….Just something to think about and you know Keaton Haack has to be ready to go for NWG and you have to look at Wolfe or Edwards for SA….Should be kind of hot down around Graham tonight…

Also from our area/county tonight….Northern Guilford(12-10) at Northwest Cabarrus(22-4) 6:30pm….They are saying 6:30 for this one and we know NG has solid pitching with Matt Kaplan and they DC Arendas, Sean Mas, Tripp Dunn, Luke Nelson, Austin Coltrane, Hunter Morgan, Ryan Dirks, Brant Williams, Matt Page, Sam Leslie, Andrew Schneider, Seth Collins, Mason Monroe and others and what about NW Cabarrus??? We know that they are (22-4) and that tells you a lot and they have been doing something right…..The Nighthawks hit the ball extremely well and if that get that phase of their game going tonight, then they will pull off the upset win…..They can do it, but it won’t be easy…..

Also in our area tonight:
Orange(16-8) at Western Alamance(17-8) 7pm…Didn’t Western just win the Mid-State Conference Tournament last week????? The Warriors ought to be able to keep that momentum moving in their direction tonight…..Brock Deatheridge has put up some good numbers for them this year and he can hit the long ball and is as fast, as any kid in the state…..I thought WA was (19-9), but maybe I was blind or that was some other team that I was studying…..

  1. Can you tell us some more about Seagar and NW Cabarrus? Would be interesting to get the skinny on that club….

  2. Very good input and thank-you….Excellent links…Now let’s see what the Nighthawks can do against this hot prospect…..

  3. Heard this young man is vastly overrated….BUT have not seen for myself. I am sure the last name helps alot with getting him categorized as a top level prospect…….

  4. NW Cabarrus also has a kid committed to North Carolina at second, quite a duo in the middle infield. They will be a tough one for the Nighthawks. Good luck to NG though, hope they can pull it out.

  5. I have seen Seager play on several occasions and I have to say the kid is good. The person who said he was overrated may have been judging him as a shortstop. As he gets older he will have to change positions, maybe 3rd base. but this young man has all the tools to be a good one

  6. Saw Corey Seager play last summer for the Dirtbags. He is a 5 tool player that will be drafted in the first round. Heard he was playing for Hitting Zone until the draft. There are some really good players in this state. Austin Brice, who played for the Hitting Zone is playing for the Graasshoppers. I am a fan of showcase ball and saw Dirtbags, Baseball Academy, GBC and Hitting Zone play last year. All these teams are good and loaded with talent.

  7. For NW its Jackson Bellenkas and don’t forget about Marcus Shoemaker who has a hot bat!

  8. Marcus Shoemaker is ineligible I believe. He got ejected for running into the catcher without sliding at WG.

  9. Shoemaker is back in the lineup for the State playoffs. His 2 suspension was during the conf tourney.
