Providence High would like to say ‘Goodbye’ to those First Round Baseball Playoff Exits

Providence High(now 25-3), out of Charlotte, would probably like to say ‘Goodbye’ to all of their first round playoff exits, after they experienced their third in a-row, with last Friday night’s 5-4 loss to Mount Tabor, in 9 innings….(In 2011, the Panthers were 25-2 and nationally ranked when they were upset by an 18-9 team from Northwest Guilford)…..

from the Charlotte Observer:

Providence High’s nationally ranked baseball team, and hard-working coach Danny Hignight, would probably also like to forget their last two N.C. 4A playoff performances.

In 2011, the Panthers were 25-2 and nationally ranked when they were upset by an 18-9 team from Northwest Guilford at home in the second round of the playoffs.

In 2010, Providence was a No.1 seed and state title favorite when it was upset by an 11-11 Davie County team at home in the first round.

  1. Might want to check their regular season schedule…. and how they prepare for the games that really count! Yes they play Audrey Kell, etc but if you don’t play good competition, you won’t perform when you are faced with it…. not sure as I have not researched but there may be too much comfort in staying close to home and playing vs getting out and facing adversity during the season. You gotta throw out the Nationally ranked stuff based on players on the roster, etc. Those rankings and $5 will get you a starbucks coffee, yes they always have good talent and will be a good quality program: . They also play on a short field as well, so hosting a first round game with teams that can hit, look out, it could come back to bite you. Last year Nortwest jumped on them with a couple of early HRs and held on after Haack got hurt but Duncan Everette came in on short rest and closed it out to get the save. If you don’t have to play coming from behind a few times and realize what it takes, you may not be able to actually do it when you have to.
