It was obvious early on that Saturday afternoon’s Class 3A NCISAA baseball championship was going to be a pitcher’s kind of game.

“I felt like if we could score a couple of runs, I could shut them down and we’d have a good chance to win,” said Charlotte Christian pitcher Bailey Ober.

That turned out to be a good premonition. Ober, a 6-foot-7 junior righthander, pitched a masterful two-hitter and his teammates took advantage of a couple of High Point Wesleyan Christian errors to get all the runs the Knights needed for a 2-1 victory at Charlotte Christian.

The Knights (32-7) earned a sweep of the best two-of-three championship series, which they began with a 13-8 win over the Trojans on Friday night. It’s the school’s 11th state baseball title.
“The kids have played hard and with courage all season,” Knights coach Greg Simmons said. “Last year’s team (which reached the state quarterfinals) set the stage for us. We graduated a lot of seniors, but this team expected to go .”
