Fowler drives Post 63 in American Legion home opener
GRAHAM – There was a feeling of redemption when Elliott Fowler came to the plate
with two outs in a tied game on Wednesday night.

Fowler, who committed three errors at third base, didn’t share the feeling when he
dug in in the ninth inning.

“You try not to do too much, but you still want to get back what you’ve messed up,”
Fowler said. “It’s always in the back of your mind, but I didn’t think about it too
much.”

That mindset showed when Fowler drove a ball into center field, scoring Adam Gunn(EG)
from second base and sending Post 63 Burlington-Graham to a 7-6 walkoff victory against Post 284 Thomasville-Davidson County at Tom Zachary Field.

Gunn said the lack of runs in the middle innings was disconcerting.
“I think after the fourth inning, our quality AB’s went way down,” Gunn said. “We
were going up there swinging first pitch, swinging out of our shoes against a
soft-tossing guy. We were undisciplined at the plate.”
