Coach Robert Kent has stepped down as the boys head basketball at Page High School…James Abell is he new coach and he takes over immediately….Coach Kent will stay on and teach at Page High School…Coach Abell, formerly of High Point Andrews(head coach and took team to 2-A Regionals every year) and at Dudley HS(assistant under David Price and helped lead the Panthers to two State 3-A Titles)…

Coach Kent has been coaching high school basketball for over 30 years and has had stops along the way at Westchester Country Day, Ledford, Southwest Guilford High School and at PAGE….

Robert Kent has over 500 career-coaching victories and his team won the NCHSAA State Champsionship at Southwest Guilford back in 1996, while he was coaching the Cowboys….

Kent has coached a ton of top talents while at Page including Brandon Clifford(UNCW/Guilford), Adam Duggins(William and Mary), Donald Moore Jr.(UNCG), Marsharee Neeley(Old Dominion), Julius Brooks(Loyola of Maryland), Jordan Weethee(VMI), Frank Eaves(Appalachian State) and many, many more…..

Robert Kent coached Brian Hege(Appalachian), Brett Speight(High Point University), Matt Ridge(now head coach at Davidson Community College), among many others while at Ledford…..Thomas Swindell and several other Swindell brothers were among the bread and butter players during Kent’s time at Southwest Guilford……

While continuing to teach at PAGE, Coach Kent plans to spend next season watching his son Jackson complete his senior season plahying basketball for the High Point Christian Cougars and the Cougars are led by Coach Kent-protege Brandon Clifford…..Coach Kent will follow the Cougars on the Senior tour and he will joined by his wife Amy and his daughter and we have learned that his daughter is now playing basketball too…..

Coach Kent coached in the East-West All-Star game a couple of summers back and helped pick up a win for the West squad as their head coach…..

Robert Kent played his high school basketball for Coach Alan/Hoyt/Casey Jones(very solid assistant with Jones by the name of John Brooks/Guilford College) at Western Guilford High School and Kent held the school scoring record there at WG, until a guy named Ray Coble came in and broke his record/mark…Kent held the school-record at 37 points and then Coble came in and busted it with 41….Kent was teammates at WG with Johnny Ralls and the two went to Guilford College together and helped the lead the Quakers to the 1973 NAIA National Basketball Championship….Kent and Ralls saw Guilford win the title in their freshman year and they were part of core Quaker nucleus that included World B. Free, M.L. Carr, Greg Jackson, Steve Hankins, Ray Massengale and an unreal load of talented players held in check, by head coach Jack Jensen…..Kent, Ralls, Jensen, Carr, Free and most of that group are in the Guilford College Sports Hall of Fame…..
