Greensboro Green Colt falls 10-9 to Mexico at Colt World Series in Lafayette, Indiana

Savado Hernandez learned Sunday night that in sports, an athlete must expect the unexpected.

Mexico’s Hernandez began the game at second base, but when pitcher Luis Ruiz was ejected in the fourth inning for wearing jewelry – a violation of Pony Baseball rules – Hernandez found himself in a position to be the winning pitcher and did just that in a Colt World Series elimination game.

Fernando Favela’s single and an error on the play provided the winning run in the bottom of the sixth in a 10-9 victory against Greensboro, N.C. in Loeb Stadium.

Hernandez then retired hard-hitting Greensboro in order in the top of the seventh, ending a wild two and a half hour game that included eight pitchers and five RBIs from Zach McLean in a losing cause.
