With the college football season ready to kickoff this weekend, let’s take a look at the Ragsdale Tigers lineup on the college gridiron(Very Impressive!):We now have others too!

*****Just added Dalton Dillon(NWG) and Michael Via-Page/Northeast Guilforfd(Virginia Tech)to the list….*****

We had news up here today on David Amerson(Dudley HS) at N.C. State and we saw Eric Davidson(Western Guilford) at Utah and got an E-Mail last week from Daniel Downing down at Coastal Carolina and we know the Stadnik brothers are still down at South Carolina and the list goes on but, the list of former Ragsdale Tigers now on the college scene across the states of North Carolina and Virginia is very impressive……Look this over and see if you can remember all of the Tigers that came through Jamestown in the past few years and we will drop some more names in down at the bottom….

Billy Stone
Luke Sonricker
Larry Ogunjobi
Tyler Ritter
Walt Sparks
Trey Grimes
Luke Heavner
Garrison Herndon
Cedric Ellison
Joey Finison
Nick Mearite
Pete Romer
Keith Tanerksley
Kasey Redfern
*****Down below we have the news on the crew and if we need to add a few, let us know, we have plenty of room for add-ons……*****

Billy Stone and Luke Sonricker both transferred from Campbell. Luke tried out and made the team for the Charlotte 49ers. The 49ers started practicing this fall but do not play until the 2013 season. Luke’s and UNCC’s first opponent in 2013? Campbell. Larry Ogunjobi will be enjoying his red shirt freshman year at UNCC this fall as well. Billy Stone transferred to Hampden Sydney College in Farmville, VA, where he rejoins high school teammate Tyler Ritter. Billy is playing middle linebacker and Tyler is playing offensive guard. Walt Sparks is still at Richmond and has gotten some snaps this fall with the first team. Trey Grimes is sweating out training camp as a freshman at WSSU this fall. Luke Heavner is playing at UNC as a receiver not as a QB. Luke is doing well at his new position. He caught a 4th down pass for a 1st down in UNC’s spring game. Garrison Herndon is practicing hard this fall for Wingate. His teammate Cedric Ellison is competing for a starting position on the defensive line. Joey Finison is playing well at Duke on their offensive line and Nick Mearite has transferred from Pembroke to Guilford College. Finally joining Nick, Billy, and Tyler in the ODAC this fall is TE Pete Romer. Pete is playing TE for Randolph Macon in Ashland, VA.*****Plus there’s big Keith Tankersley at WSSU and Kasey Redfern is kicking at Wofford…….*****

*****If we are missing somebody, please send their name our way…..It takes a while to look all of this up and then print it…..*****

  1. You have southwest students in college to Ryan Bristow Presbyterian. Brandon Banks uncc and Airyn Willis Wake Forester

  2. Thanks for the names of the Southwest Guilford players….It is hard to remember them all and thanks…..

What about the Bridges brothers Ray and Herbie? What happened to them?

Thanks again and if others of you have names send them in….

  3. another Ragsdale 2012 player at WSSU is big Keith Tanksley.

Does anybody know if Daniel McNeil is still playing for NC A&T? If so that is another former Tiger.

and oh yeah – I can’t forget my neighbor – Kasey Redfern is kicking at Wofford.

that is quite a list for Ragsdale.

  4. No one knows where the bridges brothers went to play ball, but Also Braxton Daye from southwest guilford is at Elizabeth State Universty on a scholarship for football

  5. Says a lot about coach Norwood and his staff at Ragsdale. Would not be possible without them.

  6. You left off Josh McDuffie – Southern Guilford @ UNC Pembroke and Warren Scott – Southern Guilford @ Greensboro College ; Quashan Butler – Southern Guilford @ Ferrum College

  7. Have added several names to this list. If we have left anybody offl let us know…..We all need to know…..

  8. Jeremy Chandler, Grimsley – Brevard
    Gerald Caskey, Grimsley – A and T
    Dominique Jones, Grimsley – A and T
Donald Manley, Grimsley – NC Wesleyan

  9. Don’t forget Michael Via at Virginia Tech (from Page and Northeast Guilford) He’s a redshirt senior this year and has a good chance of starting at right guard and will also get time at tackle. He did letter last season despite playing with a torn ACL which they repaired after the Sugar Bowl. He now has had both ACL’s reconstructed during his career there and is stronger than ever. He is definitely ready to play now that it’s his senior season!

College football fans can watch Virginia Tech on TV most game weeks, starting with their opener against Georgia Tech on Labor Day night at 8 pm. As for me, I’ll be there in person to see my “little boy” play! He’s #67, measuring 6’7″ and 304 lbs. You can’t miss him!

  10. Michael Via was a very good high school player and has continued that path dispite adversity with injuries. we don’t remember him as much since he went out of state. His dad was also a good coach. Good to see Michael earning an opportunity and healthy.
