CONWAY – Senior quarterback Aramis Hillary threw for one score and ran for another from a yard out to lead Coastal Carolina University to a season-opening 29-13 win over North Carolina A&T Saturday night at Brooks Stadium. Hillary finished the game with a career-high 274 yards on 19-28 completions and gave rookie head coach Joe Moglia his first win as the Chanticleers’ head coach.

Ninth-ranked Winston-Salem State held on for a 28-23 win against UNC Pembroke on Saturday night at Bowman Gray Stadium in the season opener for both teams.

Defensive back Larry Hearne knocked down a pass in the end zone on the final play of the game to seal the win. He also had a key interception in the third quarter that gave the Rams some breathing room.

Running back Maurice Lewis had 134 yards on 27 carries for the Rams and scored a touchdown. Quarterback Kameron Smith was 15 of 22 passing for 190 yards and one touchdown.
