College Cross Country Results – Guilford Competes at UNC Wilmington Invitational

WILMINGTON, N.C. – East Carolina University’s Antonio Palmer edged Guilford College’s Andris Goncarovs by less than a second to win the 2012 UNC Wilmington Seahawk Cross Country Invitational Friday. Palmer covered the five-kilometer course on UNCW’s recreational fields in 15 minutes, 42.94 seconds, two tenths of a second faster than Goncarovs.

Palmer helped the Pirates win the seven-team race by 22 points over the host Seahawks. Guilford placed third, followed by North Carolina State University’s club team and Pfeiffer University.

Goncarovs, in his second Guilford meet after transferring from Buffalo State, turned in the second-fastest five-kilometer time in school history, 15:43.14. The Quakers’ record holder, junior Chad Norton, took fourth in the 81-man race in 16:00.72. His former Guilford teammate, junior Dylan Skinner, led UNC Wilmington’s runners with a time of 16:04.25. The Quakers’ David Cason ran in 18th place with a time of 16:46.38.

Guilford next runs Sept. 28 at the Charlotte XC Invitational.


WILMINGTON, N.C. – Guilford College’s women’s cross country team placed sixth among nine teams Friday at the 2012 UNC Wilmington Seahawk Cross Country Invitational. East Carolina University took the top-five scoring spots and won the race handily over second-place UNC Wilmington. Meredith College placed third, followed by North Carolina State University’s club team and Pfeiffer University.

East Carolina’s Stacey Gonzalez completed the rainy five-kilometer course over UNC Wilmington’s recreational fields in a winning time of 18 minutes, 17.69 seconds.

Sophomore Jasmine O’Neill placed 35th in the 99-woman field with a time of 21:31.98, the 11th-fastest time in school history. Teammate Rebecca Reyna was two places behind in 21:39.18. Rookie Pasangi Perera had the Quakers’ third-best time, 23:25.16, which placed 54th overall.

Guilford next runs Sept. 28 at the Charlotte XC Invitational.
