FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – The University of Mary Washington women’s soccer team used three goals and three assists from freshmen in a 3-0 win over Guilford College on Sunday at the Battleground. The Eagles improve to 4-0 on the season. The Quakers drop to 0-4.
The Eagles opened the scoring at 19:18 when freshman Michelle Gibbons scored on a Sydney Cook assist. Three minutes later, Cook scored her second goal of the year on a pass from Jessica Bednarcik to up the lead to 2-0, which is where the score stood at halftime.
In the second half, the lone goal came at 59:00, as Bednarcik scored on an Adrian Newcomb assist.
The Eagles led in shots, 15-5, and had seven corner kicks to none for the Quakers. Charlotte Owens had four saves, and Alyssa Goodwin none in relief in goal for UMW. Guilford goalie Miriam Davis-Rosenbaum had six stops, a career high, in over 66 minutes.
The Quakers return to action Wednesday (9/12) when they visit Roanoke College in Guilford’s Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) opener.
