Matthews Butler QB Riley Ferguson breaks thumb and will miss up to three weeks

One of the top high school quarterbacks in our state and one of the tops in the nation for that matter, Riley Ferguson from Matthews Butler, has broken his thumb and he will miss up to three weeks of his senior season with the Bulldogs….Ferguson is headed to Tennessee upon graduation and it is not known at this time if this will effect his college plans, but the plan going in, was for the Butler Bulldogs to win the NCHSAA 4-A Championship this season….

Riley Ferguson, a 6-foot-3 senior who has committed to Tennessee, broke his throwing hand at the base of his right thumb.

He missed Friday’s 49-6 Southwestern 4A conference opening win against Myers Park at Memorial Stadium. Ferguson, wearing black shorts and his No.?10 jersey, said he’ll miss three weeks.

“I was weightlifting and doing box jumps,” Ferguson said, “and I hit on the bottom of the box. My thumb popped out and it broke. The doctors said I’ll be out three weeks and then I’ll be fine.”
