College Women’s Soccer Final – Guilford 5, Greensboro 4 (2ot)

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Hannah Schiltz’s goal with 6:10 left in the second overtime lifted visiting Guilford College to a 5-4 soccer win at Greensboro College Monday. The golden goal lifted the Quakers (1-7) to their first victory of the year and capped a wild contest that featured three ties.

After a scoreless first overtime, Greensboro (2-4) got the first shot on goal in extra time on a Tiffany Walters effort stopped by Guilford goalie Cori Karoly in the 103rd minute. The Pride kept the pressure in the Quakers’ end before Sarah Levitt cleared the zone with a long ball forward to Schiltz, who streaked in for the winning tally.

Guilford’s Gabrielle Lahowitch scored twice and Kelli Uresti notched her first college goal in the first half, which spotted the visitors a 3-1 lead. Greensboro’s Sarah Hopkins’s penalty kick a minute before the half made it a 3-2 game and the Pride tied the match 18 seconds into the second half on the second of three Allison Gibson tallies.

Uresti answered with her second goal of the match 10 seconds later off a Lahowitch assist. The Quakers held a one-goal lead until Gibson tied the game with 7:21 left in regulation after taking a pass from Meredith Kelly.

Both teams recorded 22 shots in the game. The combined nine goals marked the most scored in a Guilford game determined by one or fewer goals.

The Quakers visit Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC)-rival Hollins University Wednesday (9/19) at 4:00 p.m.
