Diante Baldwin(High Point Christian Academy) commits to UNCG

MILLER BUILDING A PILLAR THAT COULD BECOME A BASKETBALL THRILLER

*****UNCG and Spartan coach Wes Miller are staying busy….Tyrone Outlaw(Roxboro) last week, Clay Byrd(East Burke) this week and now Diante Baldwin(HPCA) from this past weekend and we were just asking the question morning, “why wasn’t UNCG getting any of the local talent too” and now the door has been opened and Diante is on the way to UNCG….*****

High Point Christian senior point guard Diante Baldwin made a verbal
pledge to play for Wes Miller and the UNCG Spartans this past weekend.
Baldwin averaged 9pts 6ast and 5reb for the 30-2 Cougars this past
season and was an All-PACIS Conference and NCISAA All-State selection.

Diante had eight Division I scholarship offers, but decided
Greensboro was still the best place for him to continue his academic
and basketball career.

“I am extremely proud of Diante,” added High Point Christian head
coach Brandon Clifford,”he has grown so much as a leader in the past
year and really embraced the role of a point guard. His ability on the
court stands on its own, but his leadership off the court has become a
pillar for our program.”

Baldwin joins fellow senior guard Jackson Kent (James Madison) as a
recent college commit and becomes the 5th High Point Christian cager
in the past three years that will continue his career at the Division
I level following Jordan Weethee (VMI,) Aaron Scales (Cleveland St,)
and Micheal Obacha (Appalachian St.) With highly-recruited seniors
Chuck Ogbodo and Mike Kobani the Cougar basketball program is expected
to add a couple more to the list sometime before the early signing
period in November.

High Point Christian will open the 2012-2013 season November 13th at
national power Oak Hill Academy in Mouth of wilson, Virginia.

  1. Andy – it looks like you “may have created this commitment” from UNCG to this kid from HPC based on your previous statement in a posting earlier. Based on that – I need you to send me some good karma that will allow me to hit the lottery this week. Please send my karma before the 8pm so I can make my pick on time.

  2. We might be waking a few people up and I hope we are….We had Tyrone Outlaw on here last year, a long time before he signed and we had people out of Roxboro tracking us and following what we were saying about Outlaw…

I remember Diante Baldwing and his older brother DeEric Baldwin from way back when at Western Guilford…..We had Baldwin as our Player of the Game in a game that Western played at Grimsley, back when Diante was a freshman….

Good to see UNCG get some of the guys and they should be getting more of the locals….Go after Jaquel Richmond, Reggie Dillard, Reed Lucas, John Terry, Michael Kobani and more and you will have a chance to get 3-4 of these kids….Not too soon to be looking at Obi-Rapu Jr. at New Garden Friends School, kids like Matthew Uchedike could be Spartans too and if you play your cards right you could land Sam Hunt coming off of the second tier if he doesn’t go Major DI….Get these mid-majors and keep them here at home….

If you are looking at Appalachian, Elon, James Madison, VCU, Old Dominion even schools like Davidson and Charlotte, there is no reason why you shouldn’t be looking at UNCG too…..I may be wrong, but I think I could get Lucas, Terry, Kobani and Uchedike over next week if they would give me some rope…..

Anything with 7’s, they always say, the 7’s are the way to go….They say if you get three 7’s, it is like a Pot of GOLD…..

  3. Wow! I remember this kid at Western Guilford! He started as a 9th grader! I believe he has a younger brother coming up as well. Andy, please compile a list of commits and recent graduates. There are plenty of under the radar kids from this area who fly high without the hype! I just heard Perkins from Western Guilford is going to Catawba!!!!
