Men’s Soccer Ties Methodist at Home 1-1

The Greensboro College men’s soccer team earned a 1-1 tie with USA South rival Methodist on Saturday at home. With the tie, The Pride remain unbeaten in conference play with a record of 0-0-2.

The Monarchs found the back of the net early in this one, as Eirik Nordseth beat the defense to put Methodist on top 1-0 just 55 seconds into the game.

The Pride answered in the 29th minute with a goal by Craig Gage to knot the score at 1-1. The goal was set-up by a pass into the box by Drew Clukey.

Both teams had opportunities to gain the advantage in the second half – combining for 15 shots in the frame. However, both back lines came up big, keeping the scoreboard clean in the second half.

The offenses continued to be on the attack in the overtime sessions. Greensboro attempted five shots in the extra frames – including a last second look by Logan Paussa that deflected off a defender in the second overtime.

Overall, Methodist held a slight 19-17 advantage in shots but placed 11 shots on goal compared to five for The Pride.

Manbi Nyepon had another huge game in net with ten saves in 110:00 minutes of action. Gage led the team offensively with four shots and three on goal while Earl Floyd contributed three shots.

Greensboro is now 3-2-2 on the season. The Pride are scheduled to host Hampden-Sydney on Tuesday at 4 p.m. on Pride Field.
