College Volleyball Final – Guilford 3, Salem 0

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Malikah French (Durham, N.C./School of the Arts) matched her career high with 17 kills on .452 hitting in Guilford College’s 25-22, 25-18, 27-25 volleyball win over Salem College Friday night.

French, a junior middle blocker, led the Quakers (5-10) in kills in all three sets, including eight in the decisive third frame. She totaled 20.5 points on the night as she added two service aces and three blocks to her 17 kills. French has put away 10 or more kills five times this season.

Guilford setter Taylor Whitley averaged a whopping 12 assists per game and finished with 36 helpers, along with five kills and two service aces. Kelsey Ruehling added seven kills and six digs. Teammate Brittany DeCesare had six kills and seven pickups. Brooke Herr paced the Quakers with 11 digs.

Roslyn Nixon led the Spirits (3-7) with 12 kills and a match-best .750 hitting percentage. Chelsea Jones had 26 assists and the Spirits’ Kelsey Defosse served up four aces, all in the opening game. Michele Morgan finished with seven kills on .462 hitting and shared team-high honors with eight digs.

The Quakers and Spirits meet next Saturday in a tri-match with Allen College in Winston-Salem, N.C. Guilford is back in action Tuesday (10/2) versus Emory & Henry College at 7:00 p.m.
