College Golf Results – Guilford College Sixth After 36 Holes of Gordin Classic

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Guilford College’s golf team holds sixth place through two rounds of the Gordin Classic. The Quakers shot 301-292-593 in their season-opening rounds Monday at the Columbus Country Club, which hosts the 12-team event.

Wittenberg University fired a two-over-par 293-285-578 and grabbed a two-stroke lead over defending NCAA Division III National Champion Oglethorpe University (292-288-580). Methodist University (294-289-583) sits five strokes off the pace in third, followed by Illinois Wesleyan University (292-294-586) and Emory University (296-295-591).

Guilford’s Nicholas Shedd fired a three-under 69 in Monday’s second round and owns the Quakers’ low 36-hole score (145). Ohio native Drew Thompson shot 74-73-147 and is in 13th place. Senior Noah Ratner posted Guilford’s third-best score with a 75-74-149 that shares 22nd place in the 60-man field. Mitch Robinette (76-79-155) and Henry Smith (81-76-157) rounded out the Quakers’ scores.

Wittenberg’s Alex Andrews and Illinois Wesleyan’s Stefan Johnson shot matching rounds of 71-69-140 (E) and share the individual lead.

The tournament, comprised mostly of the top-12 finishers from the 2011 NCAA Division III Championships, concludes with Tuesday’s third round.
