Gomez, a senior midfielder, was a fundamental player in the Quakers’ two games last week. The team went 1-1, with the loss coming against Roanoke College Sept. 25. He netted the Quakers’ lone goal in the 2-1 league setback. Gomez then scored two of Guilford’s seven goals in the Quakers’ 7-0 victory against Shenandoah University. The contest marked the seventh multiple-goal game of his career and moved into third place among Quakers’ all-time goals (37) and points (86) leaders. His 12 career assists stand ninth among the Quakers’ leaders.

Gomez’s week vaulted him into the team lead with seven goals and 15 points through 10 matches. A three-time All-ODAC pick, he ranks second among the ODAC goals and points leaders through matches of Sept. 30.

Head coach Jeff Bateson’s Quakers (5-5, 2-2 ODAC) see action again Oct. 3 against conference-rival Emory & Henry College at 7:00 p.m. at the Armfield Athletic Center.

The Student-Athlete of the Week Award is presented by Guilford’s SAAC, which is comprised of representatives from each of the school’s 20 varsity teams. The group meets regularly to discuss the state of Guilford Athletics and seeks to build community among student-athletes and non-student-athletes. Past Guilford SAAC activities have included cancer awareness promotions, canned-food drives, volunteer assistance with the North Carolina Special Olympics and tutoring at New Garden Friends School.
