College Golf News – Guilford Ranked Fifth in Latest Golf World/Nike Golf Coaches Poll

GREENSBORO, N.C. — Guilford College’s men’s golf team is ranked fifth in the latest NCAA Division III Golf World/Nike Golf and Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) Coaches’ Poll, released Wednesday. Defending NCAA Division III champion Oglethorpe University took first place thanks to 15-of-16 first-place votes. The Stormy Petrels won the season-opening BCS Southern Shootout. Methodist University ranks second, Followed by the University of Redlands in third. Transylvania University earned the remaining first-place vote and sits in fourth place, three points behind Redlands.

Guilford is also ranked 18th in the latest Golfstat.com Head-to-Head Ratings.

The Quakers opened their season earlier this week with a sixth-place finish at the Gordin Classic in Columbus, Ohio. Sophomore Nick Shedd led coach Corey Maggard’s team with a 54-hole score of 218 that ranked ninth among 60 competitors. Senior Noah Ratner, the defending GCAA Division III Player of the Year, had the Quakers’ second-best score (223) that shared 16th place.

The Quakers return to action this Saturday and Sunday (10/6-7) at the Ted Keller Memorial in Glen Allen, Va.
