GC Men’s Soccer Loses to NC Wesleyan 5-2

The Pride men’s soccer team came up on the short end of a 5-2 decision on Saturday at North Carolina Wesleyan. Greensboro struck first but could not keep pace with the Battling Bishops down the stretch.

Drew Clukey put The Pride on the board first with a goal from 30 yards out. North Carolina Wesleyan responded by tying the game at 1-1 and then going ahead on a goal in the waning seconds of the first half.

The Battling Bishops tacked on another score in the early minutes of the second half before Earl Floyd narrowed the gap to 3-2 with a rebound goal.

North Carolina Wesleyan would pull away late – with the help of a goal and a late penalty kick – for the 5-2 win.

The loss snaps a seven game unbeaten streak for The Pride. Greensboro is now 6-3-2 on the year and 2-1-2 in the USA South. The Pride are scheduled to travel to St. Mary’s (MD) on Tuesday for 2 p.m. non-conference match-up.
