1,129 Bike From The Mountains To The Coast:14th Annual Cycle North Carolina Event Concludes Successful Cross-State Trek

DURHAM, North Carolina, October 9, 2012 – North Carolina Amateur Sports wrapped up its fourteenth annual cross-state recreational bicycle tour, Cycle North Carolina, with more than 1,100 bicyclists from 38 states, the District of Columbia, Russia, Great Britain, Switzerland and Canada taking part in the state’s only full-service, bicycle tour traveling from the “Mountains to the Coast.”

Cycle North Carolina, which occurred September 28 through October 6, took bicyclists on a 450-mile trek through the state, starting at Brevard College and ending at the Carolina Beach Boardwalk. The average age of riders was 56, with the youngest participant being five years old, and the oldest 84.

The overnight communities of Brevard, Lake Lure, Shelby, Matthews, Rockingham, Lumberton, White Lake and Carolina Beach hosted evening entertainment and shared a piece of their unique history with the 2012 Cycle North Carolina participants. Riders traveled 40-80 miles per day across the scenic back roads of North Carolina, catching the state’s beauty as they peddled past historical sites, incredible views, and different cultures.
