Elon Men’s Soccer: Dean Named to CSN’s National Team of the Week

ELON, N.C. – Elon sophomore goalkeeper Nathan Dean was named to the College Soccer News National Team of the Week as announced by the publication on Monday morning, Oct. 28.

The Liverpool, England, native helped the Phoenix go 2-0 last week with victories over No. 13 Wake Forest and at UNCG. Dean had two saves in Elon’s 1-0 win over the Demon Deacons on Tuesday, Oct. 23, the Phoenix’s fourth against ranked teams. It was also Dean’s fifth shutout of the season and third against ranked competition.

Dean played a big role in the maroon and gold’s 2-1 double overtime win at UNCG on Saturday, Oct. 27. Dean corralled five saves in the match including a key diving stop on a penalty kick in the 80th minute to preserve a 1-1 tie before Elon would prevail with a golden goal late in the second extra session. The win also clinched at least a share of the SoCon regular season championship for the Phoenix.

This is the first National Team honor for Dean and the second of the season for the men’s soccer team. Senior forward Chris Thomas was also placed on the team on Oct. 8, earlier this year.

The maroon and gold will return to the home pitch on Tuesday, Oct. 30, for its final regular season match against Duke. That game is scheduled for a 7 p.m. kickoff at Rudd Field.
