Kelvin Hopkins was quarterbacking the Charlotte Independence Patriots’ junior varsity team in a game versus Matthews Butler last Thursday night…He then moved up full time to the Independence varsity team, for their Friday evening game against Butler and proceeded to throw for over 200 yards….The 15-year old sophomore was on his way and after coming in as a reserve last Friday, he will now move in and be the starter, as the Northwest Guilford Vikings come into Charlotte for Round One of the NCHSAA 4-AA football playoffs…
That is one sidenote going into the game to keep an eye on and another one to keep in mind is, that this could be the last game for the Patriots’ head coach Bill Geiler….He plans to step down and retire at the end of this 2012 season….
A couple of interesting notes to keep in mind, going into this game….

ANDY,
HAS ANYONE NOTICED THAT THE QB{RYAN “BUBBA” CRAVEN} AT SOUTHEAST GUILFORD HAS ONLY RECENTLY TURNED 15.
HELD HIS OWN LAST FRIDAY NIGHT AGAINST PAGE. IF DEFENCE COULD HAVE MADE AT AT LEAST TWO STOPS MIGHT HAVE
BEAT THEM. DEFENCE DID NOT HAVE ONE STOP ALL NIGHT.
Look forward to seeing what that Craven(SEG) kid can do tonight at Durham Hillside.
I never mentioned the kid’s age, but I did say that he could play. He looked strong all summer long and was killing the competition while on JV. I thought he would get some PT in earlier blowouts. Well, now he has the helm.
