HPU Men’s Soccer Earns No. 5 Seed In Upcoming Big South Tournament

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The High Point University men’s soccer team will enter the 2012 Big South Championship as the No. 5 seed and will face No. 4-seed Campbell in the first round of the tournament on Tuesday, Nov. 6, at 7 p.m., in Buies Creek, N.C.

The Panthers finished the 2012 conference season with 17 points thanks to a 5-3-2 record. Overall, High Point enters the conference tournament with a 12-4-2 record.

HPU fell on the road to Campbell during the regular season, giving up two second half goals in a four minute span to lose 2-0. The Panthers earned a penalty kick in the game but the attempt by junior Adam Sewell was saved by the Camels’ Ethan Hall.

No. 8 Coastal Carolina won its 11th Big South Men’s Soccer Regular Season Championship as it captured the 2012 Big South Men’s Soccer Regular-Season Title. With the win, the Chanticleers have earned the No. 1 seed in next week’s Big South Men’s Soccer Championship. Coastal finished the season with a perfect 10-0-0 League mark for 30 points.

Radford claimed the No. 2 seed as it finished the Big South season with a 7-2-1 record and 22 points. Liberty (6-1-3) and Campbell (7-3-0) each finished the Conference slate with 21 points. Liberty earned the No. 3 seed with its 1-0 win over Campbell on Oct. 5. In at the No. 6 seed was Winthrop as it closed out its Big South schedule with a 5-4-1 record for 16 points. Gardner-Webb’s 3-5-2 record and 11 points was good for the No. 7 slot, while Presbyterian College rounds out the seedings with its 3-7-0 record and nine points.

The 2012 Big South Men’s Soccer Championship quarterfinals will be played at campus sites on Tuesday, Nov. 6 before moving to Bryan Park in Greensboro, N.C. for the semifinals and finals on Nov. 9-11. The quarterfinals and semifinals will air on the Big South Network, with the finals airing on ESPN3. The Big South’s Tournament champion receives an automatic bid to the NCAA Men’s Soccer Tournament.
