Elon Volleyball’s Eddy Tabbed SoCon Defensive Player of the Month

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Elon volleyball’s Celia Rose Eddy has been named the Southern Conference’s October Defensive Player of the Month, the league announced today, Nov. 6.

Eddy, a middle blocker, helped the Phoenix post a 6-2 mark last month, all in league play. The senior tallied 38 total blocks, including eight solo, as she averaged 1.23 per set. As a team, Elon out blocked its opponents 79.5-60 in the month, with Eddy accounting for nearly half of the maroon and gold’s total. The Gulf Breeze, Fla., native had a career-high nine blocks in a 3-1 win at Davidson, helping her earn SoCon Defensive Player of the Week honors on Oct. 15. Eddy also averaged 2.03 kills per set and hit .253 on the month.

This honor marks the third overall for Eddy from the conference. She has earned both SoCon Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week awards in her career. This is the first time a member of the Elon volleyball program has earned player of the month honors.

The SoCon also honored two other Elon athletes with the player of the month award. Aaron Mellette was named the football offensive player of the month, while Chris Thomas earned the monthly honor for men’s soccer.

Elon volleyball will wrap up the regular season this weekend with road matches at UNCG and The Citadel. The Phoenix will play the Spartans on Thursday, Nov. 8, at 7 p.m. in Greensboro, N.C.
