Elon’s Silverman Falls in Three Sets at USTA/ITA Men’s Tennis National Championships

FLUSHING, N.Y. – Elon University men’s tennis standout Cameron Silverman battled for three sets on Thursday, Nov. 8, at the USTA/ITA Intercollegiate National Championships, but came up just short (5-7, 6-3, 6-7 (2)) against UCLA’s fifth-seeded and top player Marcos Giron.

Silverman now faces Santa Clara’s John Lamble on the back draw tomorrow afternoon.

Trailing 5-3 in the first set, Silverman battled back to tie it at five-all. But Giron managed to earn the next two points to win the first, 7-5. But Silverman stormed back in the second set, as the junior claimed a 6-3 victory to even it up and force and third and deciding set. Silverman rebounded from a 3-0 deficit in the third set to bring the game even at 4-4. The two went even at five-all and six-all, but Giron managed to close out Silverman for the 7-6 (2) decision.
