College Women’s Basketball Final – Guilford 75, Averett 42

DANVILLE, Va. – Gabby Oglesby scored a game-high 19 points in Guilford College’s 75-42 road win over Averett University Tuesday night. The Quakers held the host Cougars (0-2) to 19 percent field-goal shooting and moved to 3-1 on the year.

Oglesby, a junior, scored 12 first-half points, which helped the visitors to a 29-22 halftime advantage. Guilford netted the first nine second-half points and used a 17-2 run midway through the period to put the game away. The Quakers outscored the Cougars, 46-20, thanks to nearly 59 percent from the floor in the period. Averett managed only five-of-40 (12.5%) field-goal shooting in the second half.

Guilford’s Morgan King finished with 12 points on six-of-eight shooting from the floor and Brittany Drew added 10 points. Teammate Brittany Atwater collected seven points, 10 rebounds, eight assists and two steals. Jaclyn Nucci finished with six points, 10 boards and five assists. The Quakers owned the battle of the boards, 41-26.

Shannon Smith paced Averett with nine points and added five rebounds.

Guilford hosts Meredith College Nov. 26 at 7:00 p.m. in a nonconference game.
