Elon Men’s Basketball Begins Three-Game Road Swing Wednesday at South Carolina

ELON, N.C. – Currently riding a three-game winning streak, the Elon University men’s basketball team heads to Columbia, S.C., on Wednesday, Nov. 21, for its three-game series rubber-match with the South Carolina Gamecocks. Tip is set for 7 p.m. inside Colonial Life Arena.

THE SERIES: Wednesday marks the fourth all-time meeting between Elon and South Carolina, with USC leading the series, 2-1. Elon won the last meeting between the two schools in the form of a 58-53 decision last season in Alumni Gym. The victory marked the first for the Phoenix over a member of the SEC. The last time the schools met in Columbia, S.C., was two seasons ago on November 12, 2010, as the Gamecocks came away with a 94-79 win.

LOOKING BACK: Elon captured the EA SPORTS Maui Invitational Regional Games title last weekend after posting wins over Colgate and Florida Atlantic on Nov. 17 and 18. Lucas Troutman was named the Tournament’s Most Outstanding Player after averaging 16 points, 8.5 boards and 5.5 blocks per game over the two-game stretch.

HOT START: Elon is 3-1 in its first four games for the second straight year. It marks only the third time since the 1999-2000 season the Phoenix has won three out of its first four games to begin the season. It marks the first time Elon has started back-to-back seasons with a 3-1 mark since the 1990-91 and 1991-92 seasons.

TOURNAMNET CHAMPIONS: Elon’s EA SPORTS Maui Invitational Regional Games title marks the program’s first regular season tournament title since the 1995-96 season when it won the Holiday Inn Classic in Lake Wales, Fla.

ON THE HORIZON: Following Wednesday’s game at South Carolina, Elon plays its second of three straight on the road when it heads to Lexington, Va., for a non-conference match-up with VMI on Saturday, Nov. 24. Tip is set for 5 p.m. inside Cameron Hall.
